AMC'S MAD MEN INVITATION

PRINT DESIGN

INTRODUCTION

Mad Men was a television show that aired on AMC from 2007 – 2015.

The storyline follows Don Draper, an advertising executive at Sterling Cooper (which later becomes Sterling Cooper Draper Price), and his life both within and outside of the office. The show is primarily set in the late 1960s in New York City. The phrase "Mad Men" refers to a nickname that advertising professionals were often called during this time period, and the show follows both Don Draper's life and the political, social, and economic changes that take place during this period of America's history.

The purpose of this project was to create an event invitation inspired by historical events. This invitation is for the Mad Men series finale premiere.

INSPIRATION

My inspiration for the concept behind the event invitation stemmed from my research on mid-century modern design, office culture, and America in the 1960s. One of the most commendable things about Mad Men was the show's dedication to authenticity in their sets and props.

I was inspired by designers of the era such as Arne Jacobsen, Eero Saarinen, the Eames, Paul Rand, Saul Bass, and Dieter Rams.

THE INVITATION

The office theme of the show is evident in the design of the "memo" invitation, and the manila envelope style of the invitation envelope. I also used a vinyl record as the RSVP card and 60s-inspired patterns.
